Mozilla add-ons for Web Developer

Posted on: February 25, 2009

Hello every,

If you are a web developer, who is looking to make your life a little bit easier. Then these add-ons will definitely help you out.

Today I am going to discuss few of the Firefox’s Mozilla Browser add-ons, which is used for web development. I will go in reverse chronological order.

6. JSView

All browsers include a “View Source” option, but none of them offer the ability to view the source code of external files. Most websites store their javascripts and style sheets in external files and then link to them within a web page’s source code. Previously if you wanted to view the source code of an external javascript/stylesheet you would have to manually look through the source code to find the url and then type that into your browser.rnrnWell now there’s a much easier way. You can use the JSView extension to solve the problem.

5. IE Tab

This is a great tool for web developers, since you can easily see how your web page displayed in IE with just one click and then switch back to Firefox.

4. DejaClick

DejaClick is a web recorder and Super Bookmark utility designed exclusively for Firefox. You can record and bookmark your browser activities, then with a single click, replay the entire sequence all over again.

3. YSlow

YSlow analyzes web pages and tells you why they’re slow based on Yahoo’s rules for high performance web sites. It is also a good practice to run your website against YSlow, to find out all the parameters which is making your website slow. Once the result is out, YSlow will also give suggestion to improve the performance of the website.

2. Web Developer

I guess most of the web developer already knew this add-on. Adds a menu and a toolbar with various web developer tools. Web Developer toolbar really comes handy, when you want to work on Cookies, Sessions, CSS, HTML Forms, Images, Window resizing, HTML validators, viewing Intepreted HTML code in case of Ajax, etc.

1. Firebug

This is the best add-on for any web developer. Firebug integrates with Firefox to put a wealth of development tools at your fingertips while you browse. You can edit, debug, and monitor CSS, HTML, and JavaScript live in any web page that too in real time. Use of firebug is really simple. Anyhow I am planning to write some notes on use of firebug if I get time.

So these are the most impressive add-ons that I came across. There are many more add-ons available under development catgory.

Comments are welcomed……

Also try iMacros (web testing addon) and whoamI (profile name display)

@ Tim,
thanks for sharing. I think iMacros and DejaClick both have similar functionalities.

Wow that was strange. I just wrote an incredibly long
comment but after I clicked submit my comment didn’t show up. Grrrr… well I’m
not writing all that over again. Anyhow, just wanted to say great blog!

Thanks. 🙂
